ABSTRACT

This study was carried out on social media and the management of covid-19 information in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. To achieve this 3 research objectives were formulated.  The survey design was adopted and the simple random sampling techniques were employed in this study. The population size comprise of all the residents and social media users in Port-Harcourt, Revers State. In determining the sample size, the researcher purposively selected 130 respondents while 100 respondents were validated. Self-constructed and validated questionnaire was used for data collection. The collected and validated questionnaires were analyzed using frequency tables and percentage. The result of the findings reveals that; Covid-19 information was been shared on social media; Information shared about covid-19 on social media platforms was in line to a certain low extent with that of WHO; Covid-19 information shared on social media platforms was been managed; Covid-19 information shared on social media platforms was been managed to also a certain low extent.The paper recommends that the dissemination of information on social medias about public health matters should only be allowed for reliable sources therefore their should some measure of restriction on the form of information individuals are allowed to share; the Government and other reliable authorities should at all cost thrive to efficiently manage information on health matter.
